This past Monday (October 7, 2013) at least 11,000 Christians congregated in José Miguel Agrelot’s Coliseum in San Juan, P.R. The place was crowded before the doors were opened and the air was full of expectancy, people wanted to worship with one of the most loved Christian band in Puerto Rico, Hillsong United. It was the Welcome Zion Tour 2013 (https://www.facebook.com/hillsongunited ).
After a two hours wait (nearly at 9:00 PM a little late for a Monday) the concert started! People stand up and got ready to worship Jesus! There are three highlights that I would like to share with you, the three most important events in the concert were:
1. The “Christian Karaoke” – during worshipping time (maybe for the third song) Joel Houston (https://www.facebook.com/joelhouston) made an invitation to the audience, he said something like: “This is a Christian karaoke so you shall worship with us.” He did not knew, what he was about to see…In his next song, while he was trying to start singing in English, everyone in the Coliseum started to sing with him but in Spanish; so loud he could not sing it in English. Overwhelmed by the reaction of the congregation in front of him, Joel joined them in Spanish and let them sing in his place. Awesome! The next video is a cellphone recording of this moment (if you hear a loud voice might be mine, sorry I had to join everyone else in worship before my Lord):
2. The “Light of the World” event might be the second great highlight in the concert. During the performance of Mighty to Save Houston asked the congregation to light up their cellphones to show the light of Christ. Darkness turned into light in the coliseum and more than 10,000 lights.
3. The third highlight is composed of two elements. Jonathan Douglas, JD (https://www.facebook.com/pages/JD-Jonathon-Douglas/146677042062318), made a salvation call and many received Christ in the audience. Some of the people that got saved were the staff members. Near me a lady received Christ on her knees crying while many Christians from the audience embrace her with Christ’s love. That was a great and solemn moment that made the last two less shinny. In this salvation calling JD exhorted the newborn Christians to join a Local Church and then he said something that people might have not noticed, but I would like to highlight here. He said: “We have got here by edifying the local church, because we dedicated to our local church God has allowed us to get here.” Many Christians would like to have great and known ministries, but also many Christians neglect the importance of their involvement in a local church ministry even if they are as famous as Hillsong is now.
Overall a great time of worshipping, I did not went to a concert I was worshipping with Hillsong and I did not paid for my tickets I gave an offering for this ministry of God to keep on singing His praises in all the nations. It was the first time of Hillsong in Puerto Rico, so for them it was a new experience as for us to be with them in the mists of God’s presence. Pray for them to come back soon, not only for a concert but also to bring training and teachings for the saints in the island.
